Today we took a look at the history of the Austral Realm. We created a timeline of important events spanning from 38,000 BCE up until 1945! While it has been a lot of work, I hope that you have been able to organize the history of the Austral Realm and glean some information as to why the area has developed as it has! If you have any questions comments or concerns come prepared to share them tomorrow as we take a more in depth guided look at the history and cultures of the Austral Realm.

February 13th, 2014

Students,

Today was one of those days that I really tested your stamina and focus in regards to educational material. We did reading from the textbook taking a closer look at the human geography of the four regions of Africa; West & Central, North, South, and East. While this was not the most entertaining assignment, I really hope that you took the time to successfully complete the assignment as it contains / reinforces information that you will find on the test, specifically vocabulary terms.

Words like Subsistence agriculture and Market activities will pop up and you will need to be familiar with them.

Reminder: Your test will be Wednesday, February 19th.

Students,

On our delayed start day we delved deeper into the motivations of European colonialism. We explored the concept of the "white mans burden" and discussed the repercussions of European imperialistic policies on modern African countries.

February 5th, 2014

Students,

Today we took notes on African history. We discussed the importance of the Bantu migration south and used it as an example of cultural diffusion and cultural convergence. We discussed the emergence of Islam in Africa due to trade with the Middle East. We also talked about the growth of early African empires in the Niger river area (Mali / Ghana) due to its wealth in gold and trade connections in North Africa.

We also introduced European Colonialism, which will come back to haunt you during your Sophomore year in World History.
