Students,
Today we worked with primary sources to identify the motivations for soldiers during the civil war. We used the SOAPSTONE method to help us in our letter / journal reading and draw conclusion about these individuals who were often knowingly marching to their death.
If you were absent you will need to see me in class to get the packet to complete the assignment.
After we examined the letters we took a look at two popular songs during the Civil War (Battle hymn of the Republic for the North, and Dixie Land for the South). Here you got to do some independent analysis and compare these two songs. Trying to pick apart their importance to the different causes and motivations held by each side.

Students,
Today we finished up our Antebellum revivalism and reform notes and set the stage for our project that sets the stage for the civil war! We also had our anti-bullying pep-rally today it was a blast, I saw lots of orange through out the day, and while the Red Raider in me detests the color, the teacher and the cause can make me forgive it for the week.

Students,
DC - We turned in our claims and began working on our Outlines. This means we have essentially begun writing our actual paper. We have until December 8th to get this paper knocked out! Stop by if you need any help.
AP - Students, I heard your concerns. I listened to your pleas and suggestions. We approached a DBQ slightly differently today. We took the time to individually analyze sources and then group them together. Hopefully this helped set the expectation that is needed to successfully complete one of the most critical parts of a DBQ.

The end of the six weeks is Friday, make sure all of your work is turned in!

Binder Checks were today, I am planning on giving final progress reports tomorrow.
Today we finished watching the PBS documentary The West: Empire on the Trails this production provides us insight into the reasoning to move West in the new United States. It shows us the struggles encountered by settlers and their often time tense relationships with the Natives.
The beauty of this documentary is that it lets you experience this information through personal accounts of individuals journeys in this newly acquired untamed wilderness. Helping you gain a human perspective on this drastic shift in United States history.
It is unfortunately only available to me in HD because I am an Amazon Prime subscriber, but I will post a low quality link below for those of you that were absent.

Students,
Today we created a map chronicling the expansion of the United States to accomplish our "manifest Destiny". Our dream of reaching coast to coast. I would like to remind all of you that you had time to finish this assignment in class, but due to the awkward timing for the six weeks, I am asking that you keep it in your binders until the end of the six weeks and the beginning of the third six weeks.
In addition I have begun accepting Binders for your binder check, a list for your table of contents follows.
