Students,
Today we took a look at Pre-columbian societies outside of North America so that we could understand who the other European powers (Spanish, English, French) colonizing the Americas were interacting with. And try to delve deeper into understanding the cultures of the native peoples. We discussed the idea that trade had different meanings for each of the two cultures while remaining very similar on the surface. We also talked about differing ideas of warfare and how and why battles were fought. These surface similarities that carried several cultural differences is key for understanding some of the roots of conflict between European and Native peoples.
Linked is the power point we discussed.
Your responsibility for the weekend is to examine the last three to four slides of the power point that we did not get to in class and complete your notes. We will discuss them when we get back on Tuesday from our long weekend.
