Today we finished up our PPT on Westward expansion, by exploring the economic opportunities that began to appear in the West during the end of the 19th century: cattle ranching, agriculture, and mining. We also took a look at the emergence of populism as a political thought, which grew out of resentment and struggles felt by the farmers and "common" man of the United States (primarily in the West)

At the end of the lecture we began to explore the Wizard of Oz for as an allegory for the populist movement between 1890-1900. below I have provided an overview of this connection in video format please enjoy.
