October 26th & 27th, 2016

Students,

These next couple of days we will be creating posters that pit Andrew Jackson's presidency against another one of our early presidents.

You will have received a piece of Poster paper which you will fold in half, to create two boxes which you will fill with information regarding Andrew Jackson and the president of your choice. After researching both you will create a miniature report discussing who you think had a greater impact on the office of the President.

Students,

Today we managed to get the last PPT for at least a week. we discussed the Market and Transportation revolutions that changed the direction of America's economic development as we move further into the 19th century. Just to reiterate, in my mind these economic changes and developments in the North while neglecting the South, is one of the most crucial events that leads to the Civil War. See below for PPT.

October 20th, 2016

Students,

Today we discussed the "era of good feeling" in the wake of the War of 1812. This period was characterized by a sense of positive national feelings that was unfortunately hiding events that brought us quite a bit closer to civil war. But fear not we have our trusty roll of Duct Tape to patch our sinking ship

October 18th, 2016

Students,

Today we examined the war of 1812. We looked at three different types of sources to fill out a complete set of notes. We examined James Madisons 1812 war message to congress in an attempt to identify the reasons we went to war with Britain at all.

We once again relied upon John Green (I still don't have much of a voice) to examine and explore causes and effects of the war of 1812 on America.

Next we turned to Partners and our good friend Alan Brinkley to fill in the missing details of information.

Being able to address an issue from multiple sources is a great way to create a complete picture of whatever you are creating; be it an AP free response question, or a Dual-Credit research paper. looking a varying sources provides a wide exposure to ideas and view points that construct a more complete view of the topic at hand.

Students,

Today was a late start day so we had even less time than anticipated to enjoy the United States Constitution! However, we dove in headfirst to address why we needed to shift from the Articles of Confederation to the US Constitution in 1787 and the process in which we created our central governing document.

October 3rd, 2016

Students,

Today we examined the United States Declaration of Independence. We read through it privately and identified what we felt was the most important parts and what needed / could have been changed to make it a better document.

Link to Worksheet - Draw a three ringed Venn Diagram on the back

This was a good experience, but things got really exciting when you started comparing the Declaration of Independence to similar documents from Egypt in 1922 and Texas in 1836. You identified common themes between the documents, how the US may or may not have influenced these future bids for independence, and finally (hopefully) connected the beliefs and attitudes of our founding fathers with those of enlightenment thinkers like John Locke.
