Students,
Today we examined two letters written by civil war soldiers reflecting on their experiences during the war. Regardless of whether these men fought for the Union or the Confederacy they have a shared experience and this comes out in the letters. To analyze them we used H.I.P.P
H: Historical Context
I: Intended Audience
P: Purpose
P: Point of View
If you were absent you will need to see me in class to get the packet to complete the assignment.
After we examined the letters we took a look at two popular songs during the Civil War (Battle hymn of the Republic for the North, and Dixie Land for the South). Here you got to do some independent analysis and compare these two songs. Trying to pick apart their importance to the different causes and motivations held by each side.
