Students,
These next couple of days we will be creating posters that pit Andrew Jackson's presidency against another one of our early presidents.
You will have received a piece of Poster paper which you will fold in half, to create two boxes which you will fill with information regarding Andrew Jackson and the president of your choice. After researching both you will create a miniature report discussing who you think had a greater impact on the office of the President.

Students,
Today, while I was sick, we did manage to get the last PPT for at least a week. we discussed the Market and Transportation revolutions that changed the direction of America's economic development as we move further into the 19th century. Just to reiterate, in my mind these economic changes and developments in the North while neglecting the South, is one of the most crucial events that leads to the Civil War. See below for PPT.

Students,
Today we rearranged our schedule a bit to accommodate the students in the band. It wasn't a drastic switch but with 15 absent in two periods it felt like the right decision. So we ended up examining the Era of Good Feelings in post war of 1812 America. please see below for the PPT so that you can complete your missed notes at home.

Students,
Today we examined the war of 1812. We looked at three different types of sources to fill out a complete set of notes. We examined James Madisons 1812 war message to congress in an attempt to identify the reasons we went to war with Britain at all.
We once again relied upon John Green (I still don't have much of a voice) to examine and explore causes and effects of the war of 1812 on America.
Next we turned to Partners and our good friend Alan Brinkley to fill in the missing details of information.
Being able to address an issue from multiple sources is a great way to create a complete picture of whatever you are creating; be it an AP free response question, or a Dual-Credit research paper. looking a varying sources provides a wide exposure to ideas and view points that construct a more complete view of the topic at hand.
Note Graphic Organizer link
Reminders
Retest is now available please come in to tutorials sometime next week to take a stab at it. I will make this announcement in class on Friday as well.
My goal for the unit test is November 3rd.

Students,
In my class today we reviewed what we talked about with Jefferson yesterday and responded to the question "Should Jefferson be revered or reviled"? Depending on how our discussions went we also began talking about the war of 1812.

To make sure it is easy to spot the question, on the blog here it is.
“Should Jefferson be revered or reviled?”
-Beliefs Vs. Actions
-Policies impact and reception
-His character?

Students,
We will have two different section for todays post so bear with me.
AP
today we worked on your Short Answer section of your AP test. This is by far, in my mind, the easiest section to teach. It is the either you know it or you don't section please see below for attached prompt if you were absent and need to make up the assignment. Please use a college ruled sheet of paper and do not go over one page for either of your responses.
No thesis, No fluff, just answer the question.

Students,
Today we examined the United States Declaration of Independence. We read through it privately and identified what we felt was the most important parts and what needed / could have been changed to make it a better document.
Link to Worksheet - Draw a three ringed Venn Diagram on the back
This was a good experience, but things got really exciting when you started comparing the Declaration of Independence to similar documents from Egypt in 1922 and Texas in 1836. You identified common themes between the documents, how the US may or may not have influenced these future bids for independence, and finally (hopefully) connected the beliefs and attitudes of our founding fathers with those of enlightenment thinkers like John Locke.

Students,
Today we took a breather from PPT and enjoyed the PBS documentary Liberty: Reluctant Revolutionaries. This documentary exposes both sides of the lead up to the revolution showing us that both sides American and British share the blame for the distrust and resentment held between the two. For Homework tonight please review your notes and respond to one of the prompts below.
Instructions: please type your reply and keep the length between 150-250 words. You may post your response on the blog or you may print it out. If you print, do not forget to include a full heading (name, class / period, date) on the left hand margin. The assignment number will be 3. This will be due on Monday October 5th!
Prompt 1:
During the decade before the outbreak of war, what were the two major attitudes of the colonists toward Parliament and the British Empire?
Prompt 2:
What could have prevented the colonists' declaring independence and going to war?
If you completely zoned out during the video here is a link for you to refresh your memory:
