Today we examined the United States Declaration of Independence. We read through it privately and identified what we felt was the most important parts and what needed / could have been changed to make it a better document.

This was a good experience, but things got really exciting when you started comparing the Declaration of Independence to similar documents from Egypt in 1922 and Texas in 1836. You identified common themes between the documents, how the US may or may not have influenced these future bids for independence, and finally (hopefully) connected the beliefs and attitudes of our founding fathers with those of enlightenment thinkers like John Locke.
